Mussolini's progeny voted down in EU elections
ROME - Neither of Fascist dictator Benito Mussolini’s two descendants who took part in the May 26 European elections were voted in as a Member of the European Parliament (MEP).
Alessandra Mussolini, Il Duce’s granddaughter, was unable to get herself re-elected to her MEP post in Brussels. Despite being voted in in 2014 as a representative of Silvio Berlusconi’s Forza Italia party, Mussolini could only watch on as voters deserted her and she ranked third in her party in the Central Italian region, receiving 15,794 votes.
Speaking to Il Messaggero, the far-right politician said, “You win some, you lose some. I gave it my all,” before stressing that she would not be leaving the party based on these results.
Mussolini’s great-grandson, Caio Giulio Cesare Mussolini, suffered a similar fate to family member Alessandra Mussolini when he failed to receive enough votes to be elected as a representative of Giorgia Meloni’s Fratelli d’Italia party. While he received 21,489 votes, that was only enough to see him rank fifth amongst his party peers.
