Syrians arrested on terror charges at airport
BERGAMO - Saved on the smartphone of Alali Faowaw, the thirty-year old Syrian arrested at the airport of Orio al Serio (Bergamo), there was a photograph of his brother with the intent to execute a man accused of sexual assault.
Faowaw explained that his brother was an ISIS militiaman, who would ultimately die in combat. The photo of his brother is one of many saved on his phone, still under review by the Digos of Bergamo. In the other photos, there are dead bodies, but there are also photos of his children, one of whom, only nine-months old, with a band hailing ISIS on his head.
Faowaw is currently in prison in Bergamo, in isolation. In another cell, his nineteen-year old compatriot is help, who was also stopped on Wednesday in Orio, but was only accused of possession of a false passport: on his cell phone was in fact a video that satirised ISIS, with a Kalashnikov firing raspberries. These videos saved him from heavier accusations.
Investigators are confident that the two men wanted to reach Malta together with their compatriots, 18 and 19, who were stopped on the same day at the Roman airport, Ciampino, because they also had forged documents and were all members of a group led by a Somali .
Three Syrians have also been arrested with fake transports by railway police at the Marche port of Ancona as they were about to board a train for Milan.
The men said they came aground at Bari hidden in a container and had bought their false papers in Turkey for 1,000 euros. They have already been sentenced to a year in jail and will be deported.
