ROME – Italian police have confirmed that a man suspected of being involved in March’s terrorist attack on Tunis Bardo Museum, has been arrested. The attack left 24 people dead including four Italian nationals.

 Touil Abdelmajid, a 22-year old Moroccan national, had been sheltering with family members in Gaggiano, around 13 kilometres southwest of the city centre. According to reports in the national media, he returned to Italy on one of the migrant boats, which have dominated headlines in recent weeks.

 Abdelmajid was detained after Tunisian authorities issued an international warrant for his arrest following the terror attack, but it is not yet clear what his alleged involvement is.

 Tourists including the four Italians, Spanish, Polish and German nationals were killed when gunmen opened fire at Tunis’ most famous museum on March 19. The two gunmen armed with assault rifles shot at tourists outside the museum, before fleeing inside and taking around 30 visitors hostage.

 Tunisian Special Forces tasked with rescuing the hostages stormed the building and the two terrorists, later identified as Yasine Laabidi and Hatem Khachnaoui, were killed in the ensuing gunfight.
