Bear cub found dead in Trentino
ROME-The baby bear found dead in woods of val d’Ambiez did not appear to show any signs of external injury.
With the autopsy now taking place wildlife services are still trying to determine what caused the death of the baby bear of around three months and which weighed little more than four kilograms.
Experts have suspected that the young cub was killed by an alpha male that wanted to court his mother-a regular occurrence among plantigrades.
Despite the tragic death of the young bear factors officials claim that Trentino is a more than adequate environment for the species to reproduce: from the nine bears imported 18 years ago from Slovenia as part of the Life Ursus project, by now there would have been at least 40 specimens.
