ROME -- Harry Shindler, head of the Italy Star association of former British servicemen, has been appointed MBE in the Queen's New Year's Honours list, Buckingham Palace said.
Mr Shindler, a veteran of the Battle of Anzio fought 70 years ago, has worked tirelessly to find the graves of British servicemen killed or listed as missing in action during the Second World War and recently helped Pink Floyd musician Roger Waters discover the battlefield scene where his father was killed near Anzio when Waters was an infant.
Mr Shindler also has campaigned for many years for the restoration of the right to vote for UK expatriates.
